Listen Game is a collaborative game where players share opinions about music. As a short music clip plays, players select one of 6 words that describes the music best AND worst. Once both selections are made, players score points based on how many other players agree with them. A “freestyle” round lets you suggest a word to describe the music.

Nocturne: Free “night vision” app from the maker of Quicksilver!
November 7, 2007, 9:10 am

Fans of working in troglodyte mode should have a look at A1c0r’s latest creation, Nocturne, an application that generates a “night vision mode” for your Mac — similar to looking at a negative of a photo.

For years, you’ve been able to do something similar by hitting “ctrl-opt-cmd-8,” which invokes “Switch to black-on-white” in Universal Access options (go ahead and try it, then hit it again to return to normal).

While A1c0r’s improvements on this may seem subtle, they’re very useful for allowing you to tweak your own preferences and minimizing distracting, full-color solarization effects.

  • Proper color correction in monochrome modes – you don’t lose all your blues or reds when you tint the screen.
  • Window shadow toggling – if glowing windows aren’t your thing.
  • Background removal – hide the desktop picture so you don’t see a inverted version.

I love that you can pick your own tint for how the monochrome image is colored. Want an old-time sepiatone writing environment? No problem.

My tip? If you enjoy sitting outside with your laptop, but the sun is making your screen almost illegible, try flipping Nocturne on — the contrast and darker backgrounds should help make reading and navigating much easier.

Like all Blacktree’s stuff, Nocturne is free of charge.

Four Hundred Million Firefox Downloads!

Mozilla Asa Dotzler marked an important milestone with a shoutout to the Firefox community: “Firefox reaches 400 million downloads, and showed that not even the world’s largest companies can ensure that people from a better, safer, faster and Web.”

On 9 November 2004, began a movement. Spread Firefox, supported by tens of thousands of contributors, lasted only 99 days to 25 million downloads of Firefox to a world of people desperate for a better Web — a site that does not overwhelm them with pop-ups, a network of non-infect their systems with viruses and spyware, a site that was fun again, simply said, a website that worked.

In less than six months, all doubled that number to 50 million downloads, Open Source in a household word, and reaffirmed the supremacy of choice and simplicity.

It took the Spread Firefox global community of activists only one year to reach the 100 million downloads mark to let the world know that innovation was again alive on the Internet.

And only a year ago all contributed to the fact that once again the number doubled to 200 million downloads. More than 50,000 of you, with Spread Firefox buttons and banners, not only helped achieve an amazing Firefox download milestone, but you all helped make Firefox a theworld’s most recognized and respected brands.

Today, you all have it again. With your amazing efforts, Firefox reaches 400 million downloads, and showed that not even the world’s largest companies can ensure that people from a better, safer, faster and Web. They all, the foundation and the heart of the Firefox movement, have helped hundreds of millions of people find that better, safer, faster and Web.

Thank you for the development of this movement. Thank you for your help Firefox to deliver on the promises of large Web. On behalf of the hundreds of millions of Firefox users, I thank you for everything you have done in just three years.
